I whipped up a petition that I'd like to get a lot of people to sign. It calls for the DNC, and any party opposing the current leadership, to hold a special mid-term convention that will outline their plan as "America's New Leadership," as Walter Cronkite wrote to the NYT.
I've got to go to work now, so I'm sorry if this post isn't tagged well, linked well, and thorough. I haven't crossposted anywhere, but it should be crossposted EVERYWHERE, so if anyone wants to do that while I'm at work, go for it.
I hate when people ask for their diary to be recommended, but it'd be great to get the word out on this.

To: Howard Dean, the DNC, Congress, All 3rd Parties, Anyone wishing to read and learn from it.
We the People of the United States, in Order to restore the original purpose and luster of the United States Constitution--namely to "form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..."--do ordain and establish this petition in order to speak directly to those elected and potentially elect-able politicians belonging to the Democratic National Party and any other person or party which chooses to call itself an "opposition," "alternative," or "independent" choice in comparison to the current national situation.
We have noticed an evident power vacuum in the positions of national leadership and representation which we, as the public, have such eternal faith and confidence in as our means of freedom and self-governance.
The current leadership has collapsed into the hollow recesses of its own self-interest. We see everyday, evidence of what has become known as the "Culture of Corruption." It has become so prevalent, so encompassing, that we see this dark narcissism reaching from the top authorities in Washington, across the nation into every state in the union; and from there, into our homes and our schools. We oppose this silent revolution! We see now that a large majority of Americans will not stand for such reckless disregard of our trust! We will not stand by and let this immoral majority represent us any longer. As a majority, we oppose it, and we call for an opposition party!
...But opposition power is not our only desire. It is not enough for a group of representatives to merely offer itself as an alternative to current leaders. Those who wish to rightfully represent the people of the United States of America must present themselves as a clear and viable choice, appealing for reasons wholly independent of current leadership. None will rise to power with any substantial support from America at large as a simple opposition movement.
Replacement must be the all-defining goal of America's next leaders. Not merely physical, not only in name, but the new leadership must be a replacement in ideas, morals, values, and methods. We have seen what happens to leadership rife with secrets, favoritism, corruption, and uncompromising loyalty to partisan extremists.
And so, we humbly ask, as those who the future representatives presume to serve, that you hold a mid-term convention, in order to lay out your platform for us to see and approve of. We ask that you demonstrate to us, to the whole of America, what you stand for, and why you stand for us. We ask you to demonstrate, to the best of your ability, that your leadership understands, appreciates, and posesses the qualities enumerated henceforth:
We want a new leadership, with demonstrable ethics and morals; we want a leadership with an unflagging sense of duty to serve the interests of the people, and that recognizes it is the American people, with hearts and souls, who gives them power, not big business, and it is the American people who will hold them accountable for the decisions they make in our name. We want a leadership interested in public concern, not private interests; we want a leadership interested solutions, not blame; we want a leadership who will help us in our times of need, and not abandon us when disaster strikes, whether it be natural, political, economic, or social; we want a leadership with a sense of responsibility for the actions they take, and a sense of pride in the decisions they make.
And so we ask you, the future leadership of America: Tell us your plan.
